As it should be...
I was hurriedly leaving campus for my car today. I held the door for an older man with his arms full. Once we were both out of the doorway, I passed him politely. Of course, since I was hurrying, it follows that I would meet someone and feel obliged to stop to talk. The man, I hadn't noticed, passed me in the mean time.
Once finished, I continued on my way, once again passing the older man. I commented that I talk too much, implying that I'd get more done if I wasn't so social (a distinctly American/Japanese mindset). He simply said, "That's as it should be."
I was compelled to dwell on these words for the remainder of the walk to my car. Funny how some chance encounters can have such a profound effect on your life.

I feel well… that you can talk to much but, that you can't talk to too many people, that is to the people around you. A very big reason why I do not like cell phones is with cell phones people talk too much and not to enough people. If you were the average cell phone user you probably would not have talked to that man because you would have been on the phone when you passed him. And if he were not an older man he probably would have been an average cell phone user and would have been talking on his cell thus not responded to you if you said something which you would not have because he would have been on his cell.
And what is this “(a distinctly American/Japanese mindset)” thing. I mean really, who are you trying to impress.
